It's a real feat of writing to write a book about a priest and yet not bludgeon the reader with too much religious clap-trap and yet these stories that spawned the popular TV series do just that. A reluctant Sidney finds himself involved with various crimes within Grantchester and much to his consternation finds that he's got a knack for it! Of course this causes the neglect of his pastoral duties and subsequent guilt. Torn between his Calling and his calling to do good and look for the best in people, is what makes Sidney such a fascinating character!
