August: Osage County By: Tracy Letts

This is the second time I've read this outstanding play.  Biting, seething and searing; its a portrait of a family imploding and the audience gets to see every crack in everyone's armor and see and experience the devastation of every piece of shrapnel as it rains down on each successive generation.  Despite that there is humor too, and if you dig deep enough...love.

The Play That Goes Wrong By: Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields

Revisited The Play That Goes Wrong because I needed a good belly laugh.  In my original review I commented that it was like "Noises Off lite".  Since then I have seen the touring production of this show and there is no lite about it.  This is a Noises Off on steroids!  Tightly structured and utterly hilarious and god love the actual run crew on any production of this show!

Choir Boy By Tarell Alvin McCraney

Every now and again on wants to revisit a brilliant play and I chose Choir.  I stand by my original review of this deeply moving piece:

Set in an all boy's, all African-American school, this play follows Pharus, a junior, finding his way in  the world, at school and in general. The use of songs is brilliant-obviously one can't hear the characters sing, but pay attention to the lyrics as written, they inform the characters and the story.  Funny and deeply moving-a great piece of theatre!

Fotonovel: Grease Adapted from Alan Carr's Screenplay

In honor of the late, great Olivia Newton-John I decided to go down memory lane with this fotonovel version of Grease.  Adapted from Alan Carr's screenplay-this hysterical take on Grease is a hoot and a holler!

One Man, Two Guvnors By: Richard Bean

Needed a good chuckle, so I decided to reread this brilliant farce.  The pacing is so quick, you'll miss half the jokes, so I do recommend rereading it at some point!

The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass By: Stephen King

Well, this was a trip and a half!  Worlds and lives collide as times and timelines collide and several of Mr. Kings other novels leak into this one!  Roland's youth and the reason for his quest for the dark tower take center stage in this tome.  This series is extraordinary and Wizard and Glass gives the reader new perspective on King's greatest creation (in my opinion).

Horse By: Geraldine Brooks

WOW!  Just WOW! A stunning achievement in storytelling!  Only Brooks could write the story of a fabled American Thoroughbred and realize that it also has to be a story about race; and write she does.  Spanning over 150 years and filled with history and heart Horse stuns on all levels!

Peanuts Cross-Stitch Inspired by: Charles M. Schulz/Patterns By: Anna Fleiss

This was the first time I've actually read instructions on how to do cross-stitch.  I've been doing it for years, but never read instructions-go figure!  The patterns are adorable and the history of the Peanuts and bios of all the characters make this a fun, quick read and a total hit of nostalgia!

The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands By: Stephen King

This third installment in the Dark Tower series is very dark and twisted-pure King.  Full of riddles and wasted lands and lives this furthers the story of the intrepid quest for the Dark Tower.  Stunningly desolate landscapes (some recognizable and some not) help to highlight the brilliance of our heroes as they match wits with each other and many wondrous and sometimes dangerous people and beings.

The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three By: Stephen King

This is my second read this book, and I didn't remember a thing about it-it was like reading it fr the first time.  A continuation of the Roland's adventures, and WHAT adventures they are.  The three distinct people he draws to him are stunningly depicted through King's inimitable imagination and style.  Since I don't remember much of this series from reading it 35-40 years ago, I'm going to assume it is because I was too young to appreciate it, because I am LOVING this series now!

The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger By: Stephen King

I first read this 40 years ago, so I thought it was time to revisit.  Still love King's writing-and I didn't notice it 40 years ago but it is very reminiscent of Bergmann's Seventh Seal, to me!  Great opening for this saga.  Onto the second book!

The Last Graduate By: Naomi Novik

Picking up where the first book left off, Novik takes the reader on the ride of a lifetime in The Last Graduate.  It's El's senior year and the consequences of her actions from the first book come home to roost, kind of, in this book.  The plotting in this book is exquisite!  The ending, ends, but doesn't and did leave me screaming some very unladylike words at the end...but I'll calm down (eventually) and wait calmly for the 3rd book.

Footsteps in the Dark By: Georgette Heyer

Was it the best mystery I've ever read...no; did I figure it out half way through the book...yup; was it completely original...nope. It was however, a great deal of fun!  The dry humor throughout and the fun and funny characters are what make this an enjoyable read.
