A Raisin in the Sun/The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window By: Lorraine Hansberry

If there was ever a question in your mind of Lorraine Hansberry's brilliance, then read both of her plays in one fell swoop and all your questions will be answered.  It's always a wise idea to revisit A Raisin in the Sun for it's power and heart, and the now I've finally read The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window.  Equally as powerful as Raisin, but very different in style.  Sidney himself is ,like a mirror to each of the other characters, reflecting back to them the flaws in their own personalities and thinking.  At times he is incredibly annoying, but he's always truthful, and it takes a heartbreaking tragedy for him to turn that mirror on himself.  Brilliant, insightful, full of life (the good and the bad of it), and realness.  Hansberry's work continues to thrill today, nearly 60 years after her premature death, because she was that good!  When she passsed, the world lost an immense talent!
