Muddled Through By: Barbara Ross

This series is just so good, I've run out of superlatives to described it!!!  This 10th installment is fast paced, full of information on the art of pottery and has a title plotted mystery with a great twist.  Fun and real characters and a beautiful locale make this one of my favorite series!

Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death By: James Runcie

It's a real feat of writing to write a book about a priest and yet not bludgeon the reader with too much religious clap-trap and yet these stories that spawned the popular TV series do just that.  A reluctant Sidney finds himself involved with various crimes within Grantchester and much to his consternation finds that he's got a knack for it!  Of course this causes the neglect of his pastoral duties and subsequent guilt.  Torn between his Calling and his calling to do good and look for the best in people, is what makes Sidney such a fascinating character!

Breach of Trust By: David Ellis

Mercy-there is no let up in this one for snarky, yet brilliant Jason Kolarich!  This thriller starts at 100 and revs up from there to tan oh so satisfying conclusion.  Delving deep into politics, corruption, greed, murder, guilt and family-there is nothing left un-scorched in this extraordinary thriller!

The City of Good Death By: Priyanka Champaneri

A gorgeously written epic hat touches on a myriad of topics, but really boils down to "what is a good life" and how is that determined.  Stunning imagery, vivid locales and unforgettable characters populate this lush story of two cousins.  I can't gush enough about how stunning this book is!

Men Against the Sea By: Charles Bernard Nordhoff & James Normal Hall

Men Against the Sea is the sequel to Mutiny on the Bounty.  This book is what happens to Captain Bligh and the others with him on their miraculous journey from the Friendly Islands to Timor.  As much as I really (really) detested Bligh in  Munity, there is no denying his nautical skills, and by the end of this one, I had to give him my begrudged respect!

Swimming to the Top of the Tide By: Patricia Hanlon

A very languid read.  Hanlon recounts her and her husband's year swimming the marshes in and around West Gloucester, Essex and Ipswich, as well as examines the importance of marshes and the impact humans have had on them.  Doesn't sound all that exciting, but damned if it wasn't fascinating!

Mutny on the Bounty By: Charles Bernard Nordhoff & James Norman Hall

Have to say, I was a little reticent to read this one.  I've listened to the radio play version for years and it always ticked me off!  I'm glad I got over myself, because this is a damn good book!  While told by a fictional character, it is based int he actual events and the fictional narrator is based on an actual crew member of the Bounty and his story.  It really contains quite a lot of everything.  It's an adventure story, it's a love story, it's history-it truly has something for everyone! I can't beleive I waited this long to read it!

Coming Up For Air By: Tom Daley

For someone who is only in his late 20's, Tom Daley has lived a full life and his wisdom is boundless.  Daley manages to impart his life story through the lens of the lessons he's learned throughout his years as an elite athlete, husband and father.  With chapter headings like Optimism; Motivation; and Perseverance the reader is given life lessons from a particular moment, that Daley has managed to put into practice in every aspect of his life.  I always knew he was an extraordinary athlete, now I know him as an extraordinary young man.

Deadly Summer Nights By: Vicki Delany

What a delight to read a book that takes place in a time before cell phones and computers: a simpler time!!  Set in the 50's at a Catskill resort, Deadly Summer Nights perfectly highlights the time and feel of  resort life, showing beautifully why it was such a popular destination during the summer.  All the activities, the food, the cocktails, nature, cooling breezes.  It would be idyllic, if you ignore the body floating in the lake!  Elizabeth (not Liz and certainly NEVER Lizzie) runs the resort that her mother inherited, and now has to deal with a body, the red scare and unscrupulous owners of other resorts...and a fun time was had by all!

The Tour By: Jean Grainger

I have to say, this book was exactly what I was hoping it would be.  A sweet, charming tale of a group of strangers embark on a tour of Ireland, and they and their tour guide also embark on a tour of themselves. Despite it's predictability, this book is a perfect antidote to the shit-show that is the world at the moment.

To Sleep In A Sea Of Stars By: Christopher Paolini

An epic undertaking of writing and reading, but so worth it.  I have to admit, I'm not usually into Sci-Fi, but damned if I didn't get sucked into this fascinating nuanced story of family and freedom among the stars.  Thoughtful, interesting, exciting and even deeply moving, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is quite extraordinary!
