I'm not usually a poetry kind of person, but I was really drawn into this collection. I actually knew the author when she was in college, and I am surrounded by college students every day. Reading these vivid poems, with their raw emotions gave me an insight into the students I encounter every day. Full of heart ache, full of hurt, this collection could have easily been mired in depression, yet there was still a sense of wonder, awe and hope within these pieces. A lovely read.

'Salem's Lot By: Stephen King
Having just finished the Dark Tower Series, I wanted to revisit 'Salem's Lot. This classic is King at his creepiest best! It also helped that I had to finish this by candlelight during a thunderstorm induced power outage.

The Humans By: Matt Haig
One the most beautiful, funny, creative and moving stories I've read in a long while! This wry, intelligent and insightful take on a "fish out of water" story is absolutely brilliant, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Lear By: Brian Triber
This screenplay adaptation of King Lear, has an interesting concept, but needs a little work. While I like the idea of setting Lear's action in a hospital, the other action taking place via the tv in his room, makes for some repetitive moments and some confusing moments. Some of the action no longer makes credible sense with Lear confined to a hospital (his visits to Regan and Goneril for instance). Still a fascinating take on the tragedy of Lear!
Ultimate X-Men By: Peter Sanderson
I decided to reread this guide to all things X-Men because I knew we were coming up to it's Anniversary. I was more than a little horrified to realize that this September is the X-Men's 60th Anniversary, as well as being equally horrified to realize that the first X-Men movie came out 23 years ago and the animated series that I adored came out 31 years ago! In reading the insights in the book, it's a little sad that the scenarios facing the X-Men in the world of their comic books, is no different than what we in our world are facing now! Really sad to say that nothing has changed societaly in 60 years.

Lear-Staging Script By: B. H. Triber
A really interesting concept to set most of the action in modern times and in a hospital. The idea of having the other half of the action play out as a movie that Lear is watching from his hospital room, didn't work as well, on paper. If this is ever staged it might be more obvious how it works, but I didn't really get it from the script. Still one of my favorite Shakespeare plays and I did like the new way of approaching it.

The Wind Through The Keyhole By: Stephen King
A story told to pass the time of a story told to calm and soothe, all told by THE master storyteller!

The Dark Tower By: Stephen King
WOW! I feel like I'm been on a journey reading the Dark Tower series, my own as well as Roland's! King wraps up this fascinating series in such a clever, smart, infuriating and yet logical way, that I feel privileged to have gone on this odyssey!

Song of Susannah By: Stephen King
This series is astonishing in it's creativity and brilliance, and Song of Susannah only adds to the series' luster! Picking up where Wolves left off, the boys are off to find Susannah. For those who may not have read this series or this particular volume, yet, I won't say anymore because anything that could be said would be a spoiler. Suffice it to say, you'll hip through this one and you'd better have the last volume on hand, because you'll really want it!

Murder Uncorked By: Maddie Day
I am lucky enough to have received this before it is published, so I'm here to tell you you're going to love this new series by Maddie Day! Cece Barton, a recent transplant to a quaint Northern California town, runs a wine bar and unfortunately, gets tangled up in a murder investigation. Full of self doubt, with a daughter with whom she's not on great terms, Cece surprises herself by being instrumental in helping to catch a killer; and shows us the importance of Pilates for one's survival! A beautiful locale, wonderful characters and superbly plotted, you're going to want to grab a glass of your favorite wine and curl up with this exceptional cozy! (I also highly recommend reading Christmas Mitten Murders by Lee Hollis/Lynn Cahoon/Maddie Day which includes Cece's origin story-it's due to be published in September, a month before Murder Uncorked is published).

Christmas Mittens Murder By: Lee Hollis, Lynn Cahoon & Maddie Day
Three great mysteries, by three great authors! Hollis continue the Hayley Powell series with this "delightful" (if you can say that about a murder mystery) tale of a missing ring and other dastardly doings. Cahoon's story adds a bit of witchcraft to this holiday tale of murder. Day's mystery is set in a charming town, with lots of wine and a perfectly plotted mystery. Bonuses in Day's story include the reappearance of a character from one of her other series, and is the origin story of Cece Barton and is the precursor to Murder Uncorked, the soon to published new series!

Twenty Years After By: Alexandre Dumas
Apparently, I'm now a devotee of Dumas. Twenty Years After is another delightful set of adventures with the Three Musketeers and D'Artagnan, with the exception being that for a great part of the novel the four of them are two groups of two on opposite sides of a great many intrigues. Full of Dumas' wit and snark, this is a fantastic continuation of the original adventures!
