Not Chesterton's best. More than a little convoluted, and leaves the reader baffled.

The Incredulity of Father Brown By: G.K. Chesterton
This set of stories featuring Father Brown was great fun! The majority of the stories have Father Brown in the US, and all of them feature Brown's signature umbrella and steel trap mind! Standouts in this collection include The Arrow of Heaven and The Oracle of the Dog. The Curse of the Golden Cross is a little long in the telling, but the climax is well worth it!

Hickory Dickory Dock By: Agatha Christie
A hostel for students, a slightly hysterical hostel owner, missing items, and Poirot's secretary's sister all add up to a twisted tale of petty jealousies, students with pasts, and international intrigue. One of the messier (in a good way) plots in Christie's oeuvre, that satisfyingly unwinds!

Stamped Out By: Tonya Kappes
A small Southern town, a widowed mail carrier, a bankrupt golf course...oh, and a dead body under the bridge. It's not a good couple of days for Bernadette! Fun characters and a quaint setting, make this cozy and enjoyable read. I felt the ending was a little abrupt and didn't quite tie up it's loose ends. A HUGE bomb shell is dropped on the main character at the end of the book and it's kind of left dangling there-I personally, would have like to have seen it addressed.

Spider's Web By: Charles Osbourne (adapted from Agatha Christie's play)
An absolutely hilarious mystery, adapted from Christie's play of the same name. A somewhat flighty, but good-hearted young woman finds a body in her house. So as not upset her husband, she enlists the aid of three distinguished gentleman who are staying with her or live near by to help her hide the body, until it can be moved...unfortunately someone moves it before they can! Now I want to get the script for the play itself! This had all the hallmarks of a typical Christie plot, and an added dash of hilarity!

The Searcher By: Christopher Morgan Jones
Having not read the first two books in this series, I was worried that I would be lost on some sort of over arcing story line, but considering that the main character in the series, is missing I guess I didn't miss much. This thriller is mainly set in the country of Georgia. Rich with history and beautiful geographical descriptions we join Isaac Hammer as he searches for his former friend/business partner Ben Webster. Full of twists, turns, spies, and gangsters, it's hard to know whom to trust. I throughly enjoyed reading this, even though some of the "clues" were dropped a little too obviously, leading to some twists being less of a shock and more of an obvious option. The ending may annoy some, because it's clearly a set up for another book, and I did find it upsetting, but I can't tell you why without ruining one of the sub plots!

The Donnington Affair By: G.K. Chesterton
Sir Max Pemberton gives a prompt in a magazine and Chesterton finishes the prompt in Father Brown fashion. A fun romp through the mind of Father Brown as he deciphers this complicated mystery.

The Wisdom of Father Brown By: G.K. Chesterton
The Father Brown stories are just so much fun to read. Intelligent, well written and well plotted, they are a great way to while away an afternoon and keep your brain sharp. Plus how can you not love a book that has a story entitled The Salad of Colonel Cray!

The Innocence of Father Brown By: G.K. Chesterton
As a fan of the TV series, I figured I should read the source material. I'm glad I did! While I'm a fan of the TV series, I really am becoming a huge fan of the original stories. The Blue Cross is the first Father Brown story and he's not even mentioned or named until 2/3 of the way through-sheer brilliance of story telling! I found The Sign of the Broken Sword a wee bit convoluted-I may have to reread this one. A lot of great stories in this first collection-I highly recommend!

Book By: Whoopi Goldberg
Revisiting this book after it was first published 23 years ago, I was astonished to read that not much has changed. Whoopi's musing on life, using everything that was happening at the time, are still relevant today. If some of the names were changed, this could have been written yesterday! It's easy to hear Whoopi's voice as you read this hilarious book of her musings. At times sad, at times thought provoking, it still reads as if you were sitting and chatting with Whoopi. Her smarts, wit, and humor shine through.

Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen By: H.C. Andersen
I have to say it was probably a mistake to read all of these stories at once; I may have enjoyed some of them if read in smaller parcels. But as a whole there was far too much of the "suffer, suffer, suffer, die horribly but be happy because it was god's plan for you to die" in the majority of these stories. Not my cup of tea of tea at all. While undeniably well written, the subject matter held no appeal to me and angered more than entertained.
